Types of External Poison Arrows (Sha Chi)
In evaluating the external environment, there are 3 important factors to consider: finding protection, avoiding destructive energy and receiving benevolent energy. Negative forms in our surrounding exert destructive energy known as “sha chi”. Feng shui practitioners normally focus excessively on flying stars feng shui that they sometimes forget about the negative forms in the surrounding environment. They are unaware that no matter how good the flying stars are, if the external forms are bad, it can make their house feng shui negative. However, it is also worth taking note that we should be more concerned with negative forms that are huge and close by, compared to those that are small and a distance away. Negative external forms affect mostly elevated living in modern cities because higher living faces more possible features. The bigger and the nearer, the effect will be greater. In this article we shall discuss some classic examples of external poison arrows. These classic poison arrows if not taken seriously and cured, they can bring illnesses, bankruptcy or fatality.
Po Sui Sha (Broken Shattered Poison Arrow)
This refers to unwanted features/objects blocking the front or facing of the building such as a garbage bin, a piece of unwanted vehicle that had broken down, a pile of bricks or a set of unwanted furniture etc.
Guan Mao Sha (Minister Hat Poison Arrow)
Any window/balcony/door that can see this structure will be subjected to scrutiny by government authorities and enforcers making you more prone to fines or penalties. To spot such a structure, watch out for a large projection on top of a building that does not look like it belongs to the building.
Tan Tou Sha (Peeping Head Poison Arrow)
This is similar to Guan Mao Sha except that the structure is smaller on top of a building or it is a projection from another building from behind (like a spy peeping and hiding from behind a building) . Any window/balcony/door facing this poison arrow will be more prone to financial losses and robberies.
Ao Feng Sha (Concave Wind Poison Arrow)
This normally occurs with U-shaped buildings that are “narrow” at the concaved portion between the right and left blocks. Not only do units in the center block are affected, but a building opposite will also be affected and get hit. Similarly, it also occurs to L-shaped buildings where wind will curve and hit on certain units. This type of poison arrow can shorten the life span of residents that are being hit.
Tian Zhan Sha (Sky Slash Poison Arrow)
This applies to the situation where you see a very tight narrow gap between two buildings from your maindoor/window/balcony.
Fan Gong Sha (Bow and Arrow)
This is worse than a t-junction. It occurs when a curved road intersect with a straight road, where the straight road points towards your balcony/window/maindoor.
Sagging Cables Sha
If any side of your house sees sagging cables from the street poles above, you will be affected by the kind of poison arrow that cuts out all good chi from entering the house. If the windows or balcony at your upper storey is facing the cable directly, the negativities is amplified. If the cables pass above the roof over and across your house top, you should move out of the house. If you are unable to move out, you are advised to install a large pair of opening scissors cutter above your roof with the edge of the scissors facing upwards towards the sky pointing at the cables.
Electric Pole/Lighting Pole Sha
Considered as a menacing structure that gives a heart piercing effect, a pole in front of your house can cause fatality.
T-junction Sha
If a house is located at a T-junction facing a road, this is a serious poison arrow, especially more serious if the traffic is busy.
Hallway/Alley Sha
Similar to a t-junction, if your unit’s door is facing an internal hallway or an external alley, this is considered as a poison arrow.
Roof Angle Sha
Roof angles are detrimental poison arrows if they face your maindoor/window/balcony directly. They are particularly dangerous if they are the roofs of places of worship such as a temple or church.
Construction Sha
If you there is a nearby area have its earth energy disturbed by construction activities, it can lead to illness, financial loss or fatality.
Accident Hotspot Sha
Accident prone areas is a dangerous poison arrow. If your balcony/window/door faces an accident hotspot, it can lead to misfortunes.
Other Harmful Structures
Not everything is covered by the classics. It takes trained feng shui eyes to be able to identify what external structures contribute to harm to your house. But fundamentally, do remember that sharp and harsh features; precarious, falling or colliding objects; reflective surfaces all carry destructive energy.
Installing Countermeasures
Countermeasures remove, avoid, dissolve or weaken destructive energy. Ideal feng shui conditions are rare and most of the time we have to live with what we have. The destructive energy imparted by harmful structures can be countered by strategic placement of auspicious artifacts that will reflect, absorb, deflect, bounce, block or destroy. If you can afford, work with a genuine and capable feng shui master to build or incorporate architectural features or forms into your house structure. But remember that good masters don’t come with a small fee. And if you cannot afford, then the simplest countermeasure against “sha chi” would be to set up a bagua artifact strategically. The bagua eight trigrams gather eight types of “cosmic energies” represented by sky, lake, water, thunder, wearth, mountain, fire and wind to protect against destructive energies.
